The Solitary Bee Diamond Shelter is an attractive, wall-mountable wooden bee house that holds a pack of removable bee nesting tubes, that will attract mason / solitary bees into your garden and encourage them to return each year. The Solitary Bee Shelter is made out of heavy-duty cedar and holds a pack of 94 cardboard nesting tubes. Designed to attract non-swarming solitary bees like Mason Bees, Leafcutter Bees and other solitary bees, these friendly bees are safe around children and pets and almost never sting, but are effective plant pollinators. Height x 24cm width x 15.5cm depth x 16cm.

The Solitary Bee Shelter is made from durable cedar timber and holds 94 removable cardboard nesting tubes. The hole sizes are designed to attract non-swarming bees like the Red Mason Bee, Leafcutter Bee and other solitary bees. These friendly bees are safe around children and pets (they rarely sting) and are naturally attracted to holes in wood – holes which are becoming harder to find in modern gardens. The Red Mason Bee (Osmia rufa) is active in the garden from March to July and is responsible for pollinating top fruit and soft fruit. The Blue Mason Bee (Osmia caerulescens) is active in the garden from late April to late July and is an effective pollinator of summer flowers, herbs and vegetables.

Solitary bees then lay their eggs inside the holes and seal them with mud or chewed up vegetation, so it is easy to tell if it is being used. The following year the adults AND their offspring will use the same nest again building up the numbers of solitary bees visiting your garden each year. Site the solitary beehive 1-1.5 metres high, in a sheltered site which catches the morning sun and near scented plants. A mud supply is useful, but not essential. Height x 23cm width x 16.5cm depth x 21cm.

  • Site in a sunny position facing between south south east to catch some morning sun. Mounting height between ground level and 1.5m.
  • No chemical treatments needed as the habitat is made from durable timber.
  • Stacking trays may be inspected after bee activity has ceased i.e. in the Autumn/Winter.

My family have used GG a number of times for natural lawn pest control and this was my first order for a new style bee home. The ordering process was easy, I was kept well informed of the progress of my order and it arrived on time and well packaged. We’re all very happy with GG and would recommend them highly to everyone.

I love to encourage bees into my garden and when I saw the bumblebee nest box on green gardener I had to buy one. I’ve had lots of success in previous years with the straw/tube diamond solitary bee boxes. So I bought another one of them to!!!!!!. Delivered quickly and in tip top condition.

Put up one of these in August and only had 8 tubes filled. Next year we head about 30 tubes filled and this year we have sold out all the accommodation/tubes. All 94 filled with bees. So Im buying another box.

Excellent company. Humans to speak to if info wanted. Great products. We have been buying butterflies, and ladybirds both adult and larvae for years, plus this year we have had mason bees and a temporary bee hive which is thriving and full of bees.
