Customer Question – Pest on Apple Tree?
Q. “Could you tell me what are on my apple trees. If you scrape them off it just looks like dust. I not sure if it’s a good insect or one I should look to control, My insect app says it’s 2 spot ladybirds which it’s not.” from Victoria
A. Thanks for the message and this is a bad case of Scale Insect . On the website ours don’t look like this, but if you search on Google you can see pictures more like yours. The treatment would be a natural spray followed by nematodes :-
1. Apply Sb Invigorator Spray at least twice in a week and it must be allowed to dry so apply during dry weather.
2. Then apply Scale Nematodes in an evening when rain is not due so they stay wet on the bushes overnight – do this 4 times at 14 day intervals. This will kill the pest BUT the scale does not drop off so it will remain on the plant.
Kind regards Jon @ Green Gardener
