Full Description

Use these Solitary Bee Cocoons to boost the number of solitary bees in your garden.  These UK bred solitary bees are supplied as cocoons and can either be added to the release chamber in the top of our Solitary Bee Houses or buy them “loose” with a cardboard release box. Each cocoon contains a Red Mason Bee that is normally active in the garden from March to July pollinating top fruit and soft fruit. These cocoons have been bred for us in the UK and refrigerated to keep them in top condition over the winter. Available between the end of Feb and May (dependent on stock – order early to avoid disappointment), once they arrive they will hatch within 2-3 weeks once the weather is warm enough – they need a daytime temp of 13c. Ideally release them next to a bee house to encourage them to nest again in your garden. Available as :-

  • Loose with a release box – Supplied in a cardboard release box, simply push out the pre-cut holes and position the box in a sheltered place (it is NOT weatherproof and will need protection from the rain) next to where you want them to nest.
  • Add them to a Solitary Bee House Featuring cardboard nesting tubes, our Solitary Bee Houses are designed to attract solitary bees but more importantly, some of them have release chambers in their roofs, so you can easily allow your cocoons to hatch / emerge.

Our wall mountable, wooden Solitary Bee Houses are made locally in the UK from sustainable FSC timber and have been designed to attract solitary bees and encourage them to nest in your garden. They feature cardboard nesting tubes, which will attract nesting solitary bees PLUS they can be easily removed for annual harvesting / cleaning / inspection. It also means you can “harvest cocoons” and re-locate to other areas of the garden or give them to friends. Solitary bees then lay their eggs inside the tubes and seal them with mud or chewed up vegetation, so it is easy to tell if it is being used. The following year the adults AND their offspring will use the same nest again building up the numbers of solitary bees visiting your garden each year. Watch out for the houses with Bee Release chambers built in as this makes it very easy to release solitary bee cocoons.

I hope the bees will enjoy the arrangements I’ve made for them when they emerge from the box. It’s just below a ‘bee house’ with lots of holes for nests. The box arrived in good condition and quickly. I now wait to see the bees.

I am very happy to give a positive review. Phyllis was so helpful and suggested that she contact me when the Bee House was back in stock. She told me about them which helped me greatly. She emailed me when they came in and I ordered it. The cocoons have now hatched and I hope for the best for them. My thanks to Phyllis for all her help. The parcels were well packed and arrived safely.

The web site is easy to navigate through and to order and pay. Delivery is always on time. They have so many products and Ideas that are really helpful. I ordered Mason Bee Cocoons and wanted to delay delivery until spring they did this for me and kept to there word on delivery dates.

Great service, cocoons arrived when expected. They all hatched around the second week in May and some of them may have returned as some of the holes in my bee hotel have now been blocked up. I was really amazed to find the empty shells had also disappeared as well as the bees.
I’m so pleased to be helping the bee population.

Excellent company. Humans to speak to if info wanted. Great products. We have been buying butterflies, and ladybirds both adult and larvae for years, plus this year we have had mason bees and a temporary bee hive which is thriving and full of bees.

Not in catalogue but I asked hoping. All arrived safely. Altogether very satisfied with personal service. Grateful thanks.

Excellent experience throughout. Great products – well made & good value; promptly despatched & received; minor problem dealt with efficiently with no quibble whatsoever. Delighted that the recent warm weather has resulted in my red mason bees emerging – I hope they are as pleased with their lovely new home as I am! Will have absolutely no hesitation in ordering again and would recommend 100%!”

I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am today! My cocoons were delivered on Friday,we put up the house I ordered from Amazon and the hotel we’ve had for a couple of years in a morning sun spot as advised, and put them out that evening. This morning, 4 days later, I’ve seen around 4, buzzing around my clematis and using the house!! Only disappointment is that I could not have the offer with your cocoon release house as it was out of stock, and my Amazon one isn’t as good, but in terms of bees, I’m thrilled! Thank you!

  17. Leslie Mitchell (verified owner)

The cocoons have now hatched. Best results have been due south in the sun as advised. We are next to a field of oil seed so there is abundant pollen.

  18. Gloria Cotton (verified owner)

Great service and the mason bees all hatched and been busy filling the tubes with larvae for next year.

I’ve used this company a number of times and have always had a positive experience. The bee cocoons were particularly successful with 100% flying around the garden. I tried the mite to deal with fuschia gall mites last September and the problem reoccurred this spring so I’ve got some more. Perhaps it was because I applied it so late in the season. However the advice that comes with these products is always clear and crucially I like the ethos and approach of the company. Thoroughly recommend. Thank you.
