Codling Moth Trap

Stop codling moths ruining your apple crop by positioning Codling Moth Traps between May and the end of July. Have you ever bitten into an apple and instead of a nice crunchy apple, discovered a grub and a rotten core? This is the larvae of the codling moth, which feeds on the inside of the apple before burrowing its way out to pupate. By positioning Codling Moth Traps, it stops the moths laying their eggs on or near the developing fruit by catching them in these effective Codling Moth Traps. The breeding season of the codling moth is May until the end of July, so hang Codling Moth Traps in your fruit trees between mid May (late April if conditions are mild) and August to catch moths as they appear. These simple and easy to use traps contain a pheromone-laced lure, which attracts the male moths and a sticky trap to catch them before they can fertilise the females, so no eggs are produced. Hang 1 trap per 5 trees and this will protect them for the season. These traps are designed to be re-usable, so simply insert a new refill each year. These traps are pesticide free and will not harm beneficial insects.

Each Codling Moth Trap includes the trap itself, 2 x sticky inserts and 2 x lures, which is enough for 1 season. The sticky insert is unfolded and placed sticky side up, in the base of the trap, The pheromone lure is then removed from its foil sachet and positioned in the centre of the sticky insert. After 5 weeks replace the sticky insert and lure with the 2nd set included, giving 10 weeks protection. The Codling Moth Refill Kit contains 2 x lures and 2 sticky bases, which is enough for 1 season – if the weather is mild and you position at the end of April you may need an extra lure.

They all have adjustable nozzles making them ideal for applying natural sprays such as SB Invigorator, Winter Wash, Garlic Wonder and Sulphur Rose. They are also ideally suited for applying Biodegradable Weed Killer and for applying nematodes (Nemasys F&V) to control caterpillars. 2 or 5 Litre capacity. The long lance and adjustable nozzle allows you to direct the spray exactly where required, so it is ideal for applying natural sprays/nematodes to BOTH the top and bottom of the leaves – exactly where it needs to be sprayed. They feature a 50cm lance with a long tube, a trigger lock for continuous spraying, a pumping handle for ease of use and a large opening for easy to filling. It also comes with a shoulder strap. It also has an automatic pressure relief valve for safety. Codling Moth Nematodes

Codling Moth Nematodes uses Nemasys Fruit and Veg Nematodes. This a unique mix of different nematodes that can be used to treat Codling Moth as well as other pests including carrot root fly, cabbage root fly, cutworms, onion fly, sciarid fly, caterpillars, gooseberry sawfly, thrips, and frit fly. Nemasys F&V Nematodes are safe to use on food crops, is suitable for use on organic crops and it will not harm pets, children, wildlife or bees. Nemasys F&V Nematodes needs a soil temp of 12°c and is a perishable product, so order when you are ready to apply. Supplied as a powder, which is mixed with water and each pack will treat up to 60sqm– to treat a smaller area just make the solution stronger as it is impossible to overdose.

Controlling Codling Moth – Apply Nemasys F&V Nematodes TWICE at 2 weekly intervals in Sept / Oct to target the larval stage. Spray the tree and drench the ground under the tree. Order Nemasys F&V Nematodes as a TWIN PACK (2 packs per delivery) – use one pack ASAP and pop the other one in the fridge to use 2 weeks later. Nemasys F&V Nematodes is a perishable, living product, so it is sent out fresh by Royal Mail 1st class post. Being a perishable, living product, it must be used before the expiry date (which is marked on the inside of the pack and will be at least 2 weeks) and it must be stored in the fridge until it is needed. Once opened, the contents do not keep, so it must be used in one day – do NOT store the made up solution or powder. Apply to the soil with a watering can or hose end feeder to control soil based insect pests OR apply with a sprayer to apply to the tree.

N.B. Nemasys F&V Nematodes need a soil temperature of 12°C/40°F and is a perishable product (it will keep for approx 2 weeks in the fridge), so please order when you are ready to apply. Glue Bands with String

Protect your apple and other fruit trees from winter moth, ants, vine weevils, etc with these Economy Glue Bands. Coated in non-toxic, non-drying glue they form an effective barrier against crawling insects. Most insects won’t try to cross the band and those that do will be caught. The green waterproof paper is not attractive to beneficial insects. Glue Bands are supplied in a 3m roll with BIODEGRADABLE string. Cut off the required length, place the band around the tree trunk, below the lowest branch and ideally 60-90cm (2-3 feet) above the ground.
