This Hanging Solitary Bee Log is ideal for hanging from fruit trees to encourage / build-up the number of solitary bees visiting your fruit trees each year to ensure pollination. Made from a solid, air-dried FSC timber log, the centre has been hollowed out to house cane bee nesting tubes designed to attract solitary bees like the Red Mason Bee, Leafcutter Bee and other solitary bees - these friendly bees are safe around children and pets (they rarely sting) and are excellent pollinators. The Red Mason Bee (Osmia rufa) is active in the garden from March to July and is responsible for pollinating top fruit and soft fruit. The Blue Orchard Bee (Osmia lignaria) is active in the garden from May to September and is an effective pollinator of summer flowers, herbs and vegetables.
The solid timber design of the Hanging Solitary Bee Log not only looks great, but it also provides excellent insulation to the developing larvae inside the tubes, which means it does not require moving inside in winter, so it is ideal for permanent installation in gardens / orchards. The nesting canes are durable and will be used year after year. The Log can be hung from a tree, on a wall or post with the special strengthened sea grass hanging ropes, but try to hang it against a firm upright so it does not swing around too much. Site 1-1.5 metres high, in a sheltered site which catches the morning sun and near scented plants. Dimension approx16cm x 19cm x 16 cm. 1.8 Kg.
