Full Description

Use this Box Tree Moth Trap to trap the box tree moths between April and September. Box Tree Moth overwinters as a caterpillars, hidden between box leaves that it has spun together with silk before emerging in the Spring to mate and lay eggs. There can be up to 3 generations of moths per year, so this means moths can be present from April until September. Use this funnel trap to trap the moths and protect your Box plants for an ENTIRE season.

Use Box Tree Moth Trap to protect your box plants if you know there are moths in the area or position then to monitor moth activity in your area. Adult Box Tree Moths has up to a 4cm wingspan and it usually white wings with a brown border around the wings, although the moths can sometimes be completely brown. This Box Tree Moth Trap uses a pheromone lure to attract the male moths and trap them – without the males, any eggs laid will be infertile leading to a reduction in the population. Use this trap between April and September – use 1 trap per 200 sqm and position them close to where the box plants are growing and hung at a height of 1.5 -2m above the ground. Each trap is supplied with our unique SEASON LONG pheromone lure – the Ginko Buxus lure we include will attract moths for around 240 days unlike our competitors lures, which only last for approx 6 weeks, so it works out much better value for money in the long run PLUS you do not have to remember to change lures every 6 weeks! The lure is added to the top of the trap and secured with the tie included. 5cm of water is added to the trap and then as the moths are attracted by the lure they are caught in the funnel trap and are unable to escape. The trap should be emptied weekly. The pheromone lure is specific to the box tree moth, so other species will not be attracted. The trap is designed to be re-usable, so a replacement lure can be purchased the following season and the trap re-used.

I have no hesitation in recommending Green Gardener online service. My box trees have been saved from the Box Tree Moth, thank you.

So glad to have discovered your company with so many excellent products for gardening in an environmentally sensitive way. The nematodes for the control of Box Tree Moth caterpillar are really working (as opposed to anything chemical I have tried previously!) and the pheromone trap is collecting male moths. Excellent service, great speed of delivery, clear instructions for use of products.

Hi just thought I’d tell you when I purchased my usual nematodes earlier this year you advised me to try your Box Hedge moth trap well it’s been a huge success I have caught plenty of moths so I we’ll be buying another one next year. Thanks again.

Excellent customer service and fast delivery. Recently purchased Box tree moth traps. Box hedging had been decimated in a couple of weeks before we realised the cause. Purchased Xantari and traps. Want sure they worked at first but now captured male moths in all traps!

My box tree moth trap lure arrived on the date I had chosen despite the Coronavirus crisis. I have used these for several years and they are very effective, lasting the whole caterpillar season. Recommended

Back in mid April I installed one of your Box tree moth traps as a rearguard action to supplement manual removal of caterpillars assisted by your nematodes. I have to admit that, although the theory of a pheromone is sound, I was sceptical that it would work in practice. I checked the reservoir weekly but only increasingly murky water greeted my eyes. I cannot disguise my delight when, last Sunday, I found that the device had caught not one but three moths. I removed them and refilled the trap with fresh water. Yesterday a further three moths had been collected. So if you need an endorsement I am pleased to say that my £27.50 has definitely not been a waste of money!

I’ve been really really pleased with the performance however one of my traps went missing and I’ve had a small attack in that area so I’ve put out an extra couple of traps which I bought from you a week or so ago. Last year my many box topiaries and cloud hedge were devastated by the little blighters however my son in law who owns Gardening Express recommended your lures etc which I duly used I could not have been more pleased with the results.

Fast, efficient and friendly. I ordered some nematodes and a moth trap for a box hedge caterpillar infestation. The items arrived within 4 or 5 days and worked a treat. I called with some follow-up questions and the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. The caterpillars and moths are all gone…for now!

This is the second year I have purchased this pheromone moth trap. Great to have this product which protected my box hedges the whole season (March-October) after a initial moderate infestation

Brilliant box moth trap. Have caught 2 moths, 2 days running. I would add this tip though – because they seem to keep flying around even when in contact with water, and to avoid them escaping when removing/changing the water, add a couple of drops of washing up liquid. This gets rid of the water surface tension and they drown straight away.

I had my lovely box trees for 30 years and was distraught to see them being eaten alive by box tree caterpillar. Having waged an intensive battle with the little demons using nematode, a moth trap and the health mix for the last 3 years I am pleased to report they are back from the brink and this year with the help of these products for the first time they are looking lush. My only problem is the trap has broken . The bowl has completely shattered today when I was trying to clean it. Can you please supply a new lower half ?

    • Jon

Thanks for the message and glad to hear you are winning the battle against Box Moth. If you ring us next week on 01493 750061 we can work out which trap you have and see if we can find a bottom half for you. Kind regards Jon @ Green Gardener

I recently bought two traps and nematodes from you and the moths are now flying and the traps are attracting more than 12 per night each. However I am now putting in a little washing up liquid in the reservoir that means they drown very quickly as without it they are able to fly even after landing on the water.

Hope from despair! The box moth arrived 3 years ago and I thought I’d lose all my plants, a massive part of my garden. Green gardener has supplied the means to control it, and it doesn’t affect the other natural life. Thank you.

  15. Aisling Sykes

I am very happy to say that 6 weeks or so after buying the moth trap and applying the solution my box shrubs are greening up nicely and I have caught one moth and there is another one fluttering around in the trap!

  16. Malcolm (verified owner)

Had my first ever box moth attack in May this year.
Bought the box moth trap and caught nothing for around a month, but suddenly I was catching over a dozen a night for a few weeks.
I am awaiting a second caterpillar attack but so far nothing.
Will certainly get a new pheromone lure next year.

  17. Bernard Short

Good results this last year with 40 box tree moths in our trap.
I want to buy a replacement 240 day lure, plus another complete kit, to have two separate traps as our box hedging is quite large.
Do you sell the replacement lures please as I cannot see them on your website.

    • Jon

Thanks for the message and yes we sell the lures on their own as the traps are designed to be re-usable – search box lure in the search box. They are not available yet as the traps have sold out for this year but will be available again in the spring. Kind regards Jon @ Green Gardener

Thanks for the message and yes the little tube is the lure. Use the tie included to secure in the basket.

I always buy from Green Gardener. I had my first moth on the 19th June this year. In the past 10 days I have had an average of 40 moths each night in one trap alone and 15 in another one
I have only ever seen one caterpillarI also spray my plants on a regular basis.I believe the traps are essential
I have a lot of box balls and box hedges..The long time lure you use is very important to me.
