Stop Sciarid Flies laying their eggs in your pots / containers / seed trays by adding a layer of Sciarid Zoot Off to the surface of your compost. It can be spread around established plants or applied after seeds have been sown and the seedlings will germinate through the dressing. This granular product is made from dried, crushed olive pommace (the dried left-overs from making organic olive oil) with an added volcanic mineral. Sciarid Zoot Off is attractive in appearance, fragrant, biodegradable, safe to use and is totally safe for pets and wildlife. Available in 1.7kg bags, each bag will cover 1.2 sqm. Sciarid fly (compost fly / fungus gnat) is a common greenhouse pest - Control sciarid fly naturally by introducing Hypoaspis Miles predators to target the eggs and larvae of Sciarid Fly. Hypoaspis needs a daytime temp of 15c and prefers moist conditions (but not waterlogged) and comes in a shaker tube containing vermiculite which is simply sprinkled over the affected plants. Apply 100 Hypoaspis per sqm as a preventative treatment i.e. a pack of 10,000 will treat 100 sqm, but apply double for mild infestations or even 500 Hypoaspis per sqm for heavy infestations. For heavy infestations it is good idea to treat with Sciaird Nematodes as well - CLICK HERE to find out more. Control Thrips underglass by introducing Amblyseius Cucumeris predators. Thrip attacks plants under-glass, but can affect plants outdoors as well. Supplied in sachets - each sachet containing a breeding colony of mites that will emerge onto the plant, to attack the larvae AND pupae of thrip. The sachet maintains the breeding colony in good condition. Mites emerge from the sachets over several weeks and in much higher numbers than with a single broadcast release. Sachets are perfect for positioning mites on individual plants, for introducing predators early in the season when food is scarce or for use outdoors. Lacewing larvae are natural predators of aphids and other soft bodied pests such as whitefly eggs, thrip larvae, scale insect, mealybug and young caterpillars. They are able to eat over 300 pests each, so they are ideal for clearing heavy infestations in the garden / under-glass. Lacewing Larvae are supplied in a cardboard shaker tube containing the larvae and buckwheat husks - simply sprinkle the buckwheat and larvae over the infected plants at a rate of at least 10 per sqm straight from the shaker tube i.e. a tube of 500 larvae will treat up to 50 sqm.
