New - Trichogramma is a tiny parasitic wasp, which is being used to control caterpillar in box plants / hedges. Trichogramma lay their own eggs within the eggs of moths, so that instead of a caterpillar emerging another Trichogramma emerges instead, so caterpillar numbers decrease as Trichogramma numbers increase. Trichogramma will NOT control caterpillars already present, so it is important to introduce this treatment before caterpillar numbers gets too high. Trichogramma are introduced as eggs on small white cards, which are suspended within the plants at a rate of 1 card per 1 sqm. Trichogramma has a short lifecycle, so it is important to introduce them at fortnightly intervals to keep their numbers up. We supply 4 introductions at fortnightly intervals, but you can add extra introductions - see below. Trichogramma is supplied in strips of 5 cards which will treat up to 5 sqm of Box plants / hedges. Currently unavailable.

New - Trichogramma for Box Tree CaterpillarFemale Trichogramma search out moth eggs to lay their own eggs within, so that instead of a caterpillar emerging another Trichogramma emerges instead, so caterpillar numbers decrease as Trichogramma numbers increase. Trichogramma will NOT control caterpillars already present, so it is important to introduce this treatment before caterpillar numbers gets too high - ideally it should be introduced once moths are spotted, which will indicate that eggs are being laid. Trichogramma eggs are introduced into the box plants / hedges as eggs on small white cards, which are suspended within the plants at a rate of 1 card per 1 sqm i.e. if you have a 10m hedge which is 1m high then you will need 10 cards placed at 1m intervals within the hedge. It is important to suspend the cards within the plant / hedge, so the cards are not in direct sunlight. Trichogramma has a short lifecycle, so it is important to introduce them at fortnightly intervals to keep their numbers up.
