Use this new Mealybug Lure and sticky traps and control the male winged mealy bugs in your greenhouse or conservatory. Only the male mealy bugs fly - they only live for a short time, they not feed and their only job is to breed, so by catching them as they emerge, any eggs laid by the females will be infertile. The pheromone lure is specific to mealybugs (citrus and other species), so by placing it in the middle of a glue trap and hanging it above infected plants, the male flying mealy bug can be attracted to the glue trap and controlled. Each lure works for 6 weeks and they should be left in position where mealy bug is an on-going problem. Simply change the traps as they become full of trapped insects and change the lure every 6 weeks. Store unused lures in the fridge / freezer for up to 12 months. Lures are supplied individually with 10 x Hanging Glue Traps included. Available NOW.

Mealy Bug is a major pest in conservatories and greenhouses and with more and more ornamental plants being grown in permanent plantings, this allows the pest to flourish and overwinter. Mealy Bugs are soft bodied, pink / grey in colour and about 5mm long. They are covered with white waxy threads and a waxy covering. Mealy Bugs feed by sucking the sap from the plant, so they will normally be found on the stems or leaf joints although they will attack leaves causing them to yellow. The insect extracts large amounts of sap with the excess sap being excreted as honeydew causing a sticky deposit on the lower leaves. In time, sooty mould grows on the honeydew resulting in an unpleasant mess. Another sure sign of a mealy bug infestation is "white wool" developing on the plant leaves and stems. This is where the eggs are laid. The male is short lived and has wings and his only job is to breed, while the female is flightless. The resulting young nymphs are active and search out new feeding sites by crawling from plant to plant. As the nymphs mature they become less active and settle down to feed. The life cycle can take up to 13 weeks at 18°C/66°F.

  • Control the male flying mealybugs by positioning this new Mealybug Lure on a glue trap above the infected plants.
  • If the infestation is heavy, spray with infected plant with SB Invigorator Natural Spray (CLICK HERE to find out more) 1st to kill as much of the mealy bug as possible BEFORE introducing Cryptolaemus.
  • Control the female mealybugs and the nymphs in your greenhouse or conservatory by introducing Cryptolaemus Larvae AS SOON as you see mealy bug and the temp is 16°C/61°F. Place the Cryptolaemus larvae directly onto the infected plants near the mealy bugs - these larvae are easy to handle. CLICK HERE to find out more.
