• When you are ready to start redeem the voucher for the worms following the instructions on the voucher. The worms will arrive within a couple of days.
• Assemble the sump by attaching the feet.
• Place the 1st tray on top of the sump and add the coir bedding and some of the paper packaging the wormery was delivered in torn into little pieces and add the worms.
• Cover the worms with a layer of chopped kitchen waste.
• Keep adding kitchen waste regularly to the tray – in the beginning it is best to add small amounts of waste regularly to allow the worms to settle in.
• Once the 1st tray is full, start filling the next tray.
• The worms start “eating” the kitchen waste in the bottom tray and once finished, they move up to the next tray through the perforations in each layer. Simply keep adding waste & filling the trays.
• By the time you have filled the top tray, the bottom tray will have fully worked compost, which can be emptied out. This empty tray is then placed on the top ready for fresh waste.
• The liquid fertilizer is drained regularly from the sump by tipping it forward and needs to be diluted (10:1) before use.

The DIY Solitary Bee Hotel contains 24 solitary bee tubes that are the right size to attract non-swarming bees like the Red Mason Bee, Leafcutter Bee and other solitary bees. These friendly bees are safe around children and pets (they rarely sting) and are naturally attracted to holes in wood – holes which are becoming harder to find in modern gardens. The Red Mason Bee (Osmia rufa) is active in the garden from March to July and is responsible for pollinating top fruit and soft fruit. The Blue Mason Bee (Osmia caerulescens) is active in the garden from late April to late Julyand is an effective pollinator of summer flowers, herbs and vegetables.

Solitary bees then lay their eggs inside the holes and seal them with mud or chewed up vegetation, so it is easy to tell if it is being used. The following year the adults AND their offspring will use the same nest again building up the numbers of solitary bees visiting your garden each year. Site the solitary beehive 1-1.5 metres high, in a sheltered site which catches the morning sun and near scented plants. A mud supply is useful, but not essential.

• Site in a sunny position facing between south south east to catch some morning sun. Mounting height between ground level and 1.5m.
• No tools required, made from sustainable timber and is buildable in around 20 mins.
