Treating a pond with Barley Straw Bales could not be easier – simply throw them into the pond! As the barley straw rots, it releases compounds which stop algae AND blanket weed growth. The throwers also have the same bacteria added as is in the Clarity product to help reduce algae re-growth by reducing nutrient levels. When the water is cold it takes approximately 4 weeks for the barley straw to start rotting and to start working, but the process happens much quickly in the summer – only 1-2 weeks when the water is above 20c. For best results add new bales every 3 months, so that new barley straw is in place working BEFORE the straw in the original bales have completely rotted i.e. remove the old nets once a new thrower has been in-situ for a few weeks. Supplied in 2kg bale – each Barley Straw Bale will treat a 80 sqm pond (surface area) for 4 months. N.B. For very green ponds or where the blanket weed is bad, please use DOUBLE the number of bales i.e. use 1 per 40 sqm.

Keep ponds clear and healthy by adding Clarity PRO. A healthy pond is a clear pond and is a complex environment where fish, plants and other animals live in balance, but sometimes this balance is disturbed. Often this happens in the spring and summer as the pond warms up resulting in algae and blanket weed growth. Add Clarity PRO to increase the number of beneficial bacteria in your pond and restore the natural balance. Clarity PRO is a natural blend of bacteria normally present in healthy ponds and is totally safe for wildlife, fish, frogs etc. By adding Clarity to your pond, these bacteria will clean the pond controlling blanket weed / algae, reduce organic debris, reduce ammonia / nitrates / phosphorous and reduce pond scum / odour in stagnant waters. Clarity PRO is added to the pond between March and September and then a reduced dose is used for the rest of the year.

Using Clarity PRO – For ponds up to 4500 gallons or 20,000 litres add 62.5g initially, then 2 weeks later add 37.5g, then 2 weeks later add 25g. Repeat dose at monthly intervals. A 25g scoop is supplied. For a pond half the size, use half the amount. Treating a pond of this size, 1 kg of Clarity PRO will last 3 years! making it great value for money. Clarity Pro is supplied as a powder and is dissolved in luke warm water. Allow to stand for 4 hours, with occasional stirring to encourage bacterial activity. Simply add this solution to your pond making application of Clarity Pro very easy.

Clarity PRO Calculation – To work out how much Clarity PRO is needed for a LARGER pond a simple formulae is used :-

Pond Length (m’s) x width (m’s) x depth (this is average depth in m’s) = ? then divide this figure by 1.6 and this is the dose factor in grammes.

Example Calculation – My pond on the land is 10m x 10m x 2m deep, therefore my dose factor is 125g (10 x 10 x 2 /1.6 = 125) Clarity PRO Treatment – An initial treatment of 2 x dose factor i.e. in my case 2 x 125g = 250g, followed by a second dose of 1 x dose factor i.e. in my case 125g 2 weeks later and then 1 x dose factor every month after that. Therefore 1kg of Clarity Pro will last me 5 months.
