NEW - Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi - Rootgrow has been endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). The RHS recognise the importance of reducing our use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides and acknowledge the benefits of using Mycorrhizal Fungi in the garden.
NEW - Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi - These fungi are supplied as granules which are sprinkled in the planting hole before planting trees, roses or shrubs. One application of rootgrow will cause a large secondary "root" system of mycorrhizal fungi to develop alongside the plants own roots, which will supply nutrients and water to the plant for its entire lifetime. The Rootgrow fungi are 100% UK origin and are produced in this country.
How do they work? As the mycorrhizal fungi flourish in the soil, they form a symbiotic relationship with the plant. The fungi creates a much deeper "root" system than the plant (pictured right - the fine white root system of the fungi around the plants own roots)and it uses this to channel nutrients and water from the soil to the plant, which it swaps for sugars, which it cannot create itself. This symbiotic relationship is therefore mutually beneficial to both the plant and the fungi with the plant receiving essential nutrients and water from the fungus and the fungus receiving sugars. The secondary root system of the fungi reaches out much further than the plants own root system helping the plant to feed itself and withstand drought. It also helps prevent some soil-borne pathogens entering the roots. What are the benefits? Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi act like a permanent fertiliser and ensure rapid plant establishment BUT they also do much more than any fertiliser. The benefits to plants are :-
- Better nutrient uptake - Because these fungi are so much finer than the plant's own roots, they can find nutrients in the soil far more efficiently especially phosphorous and potassium, which encourage flowering and fruiting and trace elements that all plants need to grow well.
- Drought tolerance - Mycorrhizal fungi hold onto water in soils like a sponge.
- Benefits to roses - Using Rootgrow with roses will help them to establish well and produce a good show of flowers. Use Rootgrow to overcome "rose sickness" - which occurs where roses have previously been grown. Treating with Rootgrow solves this problem.
- Establishment in difficult soils - Mycorrhizal fungi will enable plants to establish and thrive even in difficult soils. In poor sandy soils the mycorrhizal fungi will be able to find scarce nutrients and hold onto water. In clay soils these fungi unlock nutrients -acting like a clay breaker.
How do I use Rootgrow mycorrhizal fungi? - It is very important that the granules come into direct contact with the plant roots.
- Dig planting hole as normal.
- Sprinkle 20g of Rootgrow in the planting hole.
- Place the plant in the hole directly on top of the granules.
- Backfill as normal with compost or soil.
- Mulch as normal.
Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi are supplied in 360g pouches with a 10g scoop included - this is enough to plant 20 large rose bushes, shrubs etc - 360g £12.99
N.B. Rootgrow does not work on Brassicas, Rhododendrons, Azalaeas, Heathers, Cranberries or Blueberries. |
