Lawn Flea Nematodes –  Use Lawn Flea Nematodes to control fleas in your lawn naturally. Fleas bother our pets and they bite us stopping us enjoying our garden. Nematodes have been used successfully to control fleas in lawns and now these same nematodes are available to you, so you and your pet can go back to making the most of your garden. Fleas thrive in warm or humid weather and can lay up to 50 eggs each day. The larvae do not like high temperatures, so concentrate on treating shady areas of the lawn, but if you or your pet has a favourite spot outdoors, make sure to treat that area as well. Control Fleas naturally by applying Lawn Flea Nematodes when the fleas are present and the daytime soil temp is 12c - normally May to September.

N.B. Lawn Flea Nematodes need a soil temperature of 12c and are a perishable product, so make sure your soil is warm enough before you order. Available NOW for use in sheltered gardens, but is normally applied from April onwards.

Lawn Flea control nematodes – This natural control contains a mixture of natural, nematodes, which will attack the larval and pupal stages of fleas in the soil where they live. Each pack of Flea control nematodes contains 3 sachets of nematodes, which will treat up to 50 sqm of lawn. Either treat the entire lawn or identify the areas where fleas are likely to be ( in cooller shady areas) and treat the lawn 3 times at 7 day intervals using a fresh sachet of nematodes each time. It is supplied as a powder which is mixed with water and applied to the lawn with a sprayer or hoseend Feeder. The nematodes should be applied when the soil temp is 12C /54F and the pest is present (between May - September.). After application use plenty of water to wash the nematodes into the soil where they can find the fleas. As with all nematodes, only order when you are ready to apply as they are perishable.

"Just to say thank you for your advice. The Lawn Flea Nematodes seams to have done the trick as we have not seen any fleas for three days now, so that is fantastic!  For little things that you can't see they do a great job. Keep up the good work it helps so many." Many thanks Gary

"Thank you very much for the useful nematodes and other green products you supplied me with recently. I am happy to say my lawn flea problem seems to be coming under control, despite the neighbour's cats treating my small back garden as their personal parasite repository!" Many thanks again, Carolyn Angwin-Thomson

"I purchased some flea lawn nematodes about a month ago and carried out the 3 treatments. I have 4 cats and 3 dogs and saw rather a lot of fleas on them prior to the nematode treatment. After setting traps we realised they were coming in from outside. A month on and we have NO fleas. No other treatments were used! Thank you!" Melissa by email

Wireworm Nematode Control

Wireworm Nematodes - treats 100 sqm - currently unavailable

Wireworm Control - Wireworms are a soil based pest that attack potatoes, carrots and other root crops in late summer and autumn. Control wireworms by watering wireworm nematodes into the soil when the soil temp is 12C /54F and the pest is present i.e. normally May to Sept. Finished for this year - available again in 2018.

N.B. Nemasys Chafer Grub Killer needs a soil temperature of 12c, so it is too late to apply this year. The next opportunity to treat is April 2018, so Nemasys Chafer Grub Killer will be back on sale in late March 2018.

Wireworm Control - Controlling this pest can be difficult as it has a life cycle lasting over 2 years. Our natural nematode control contains Heterorhabditis bacteriophora nematodes which attack wireworms. It is supplied as a powder which is mixed with water and applied to the soil through a watering can or hose end feeder. The nematodes should be applied when the soil temp is 12C /54F and the pest is present (anytime between May and September). Apply plenty of water after application, so that the nematodes are washed into the soil where they can find the wireworms. As with all nematodes, order when you are ready to apply as they are perishable. Each pack treats 100 sqm / 125 sq. yds.

N.B. Due to the extended lifecycle, you may need to apply for a number of years to clear the pest.

Caterpillars, Box Tree, Coldling Moth & Sawfly

Nemasys F&V Protection for Caterpillars - 3 sachets£16.99Add Nemasys F&V Protection for Caterpillars - 3 sachets

Controlling Caterpillars (including Box Tree Caterpillars, Codling Moth and Gooseberry Sawfly) with Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection (Nemasys® F&V) - Caterpillars are the larval stage of butterflies and moths and they can decimate both ornamentals and edible crops. Control caterpillars / Box Tree Caterpillars / sawfly / codling moth naturally by spraying with Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection 3 times at 7 day intervals when the caterpillars are 1st spotted.

N.B. Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection is a perishable product, so order when the pest is present, temperatures are at least 12c (suitable for use under-glass) and you are ready to apply.

Controlling Caterpillars - Young caterpillars "graze" on the underside of leaves, but as they grow they cause more and more damage to leaves, flowers, growing tips and fruit. Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection is effective at controlling a wide range of caterpillars, but is harmless to children, pets and other wildlife and can be used on food crops up to harvest time. As Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection is a cure rather than a preventative measure, apply the nematodes when the caterpillars are 1st spotted (normally August / September) and re-apply as necessary to keep caterpillars at bay.

Box Tree Caterpillars - These caterpillars feeds on box plants causing severe defoliation and although it is native to East Asia it has become well established in parts of London and some of the surrounding counties. The caterpillars eat the box leaves and produce large amounts of webbing. As the caterpillars feed, areas of dieback may appear, which will be especially apparent on trimmed plants. Box Tree Caterpillars are greenish-yellow with black headsand once fully grown the caterpillars reach up to 4cm in length and will have a thick black and thin white stripes along its body. It overwinters as a caterpillar, hidden between leaves that have been spun together with silk. In the spring, the moths appear - they have brown or clear wings and are about 4cm in width. It is believed to have two or three generations per year. Control Box Tree Caterpillars by spraying with Nemasys® F&V in the spring as soon as the 1st caterpillars are spotted and the daytime temp is 12c (late March onwards) and then repeat as needed to keep the caterpillars under control. It is also important to treat in the autumn (Sept / Oct) to kill as many of the caterpillars BEFORE they have the chance to over-winter.

Controlling Gooseberry Sawfly - Gooseberry Sawfly is a devastating pest of - yes! gooseberry bushes. The sawfly caterpillar attacks the leaves in late spring and can quickly strip them -often just leaving the mid rib intact. Damage usually starts in late spring and can continue until mid summer as successive generations attack the leaves. Control Gooseberry Sawfly by spraying with Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection when the sawfly caterpillars are 1st spotted - normally mid May.

Controlling Codling and Plum Moth - Codling Moth caterpillars are small and white with a brown head and they burrow into apples and pears in mid to late summer. Control colding / plummoth naturally by applying Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection in September / early October with a sprayer to the tree trunk, the main branches and the soil beneath the tree to kill the over-wintering larvae and pupae. Control Codling and Plum Moth by spraying with Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection in September / early October.

Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection - Each pack of Nemasys® Fruit and Vegetable Protection contains a unique mix of different nematodes, which protects your plants, fruit and veg from caterpillars. It is suitable for use on organic crops & it will NOT harm pets, children, wildlife or bees. To control caterpillars order 3 packs of F&V and apply them 3 times at 7 day intervals. Each pack will treat up to 60 sqm of plants. Make sure to wet the area before the application to increase the humidity and thus provide a better environment for the nematodes in order to keep them alive for as long as possible. Mix the first sachet of nematodes with water and apply with a sprayer directly to the affected plants making sure the nematodes come into contact with the caterpillars. The nematodes enter the caterpillars and kill them. The whole process is repeated 7 day later using the 2nd and 3rd fresh pack of nematodes. Store the sachets in a fridge and use them before the expiry date (approx 4 weeks).

Kathy Doyle, Deputy Head Gardener at Garden Organic, Ryton, says After the first application in mid May, I didn’t see any caterpillars, but as the instructions told me to give it further drenches, I did so.  Last year I spent so much time handpicking caterpillars off my plants that it was great to find a biological control for them this year. We had very limited damage to our gooseberry bushes by drenching them with nematodes and the whole trial was very successful.  We shall go on using nematodes to combat Gooseberry Sawfly and when the Soil Association visited they were happy with the use of nematodes as well.”

Controlling Conifer Mite with Amblyseius Andersonni – Brown patches on Leylandii hedges is now a common sight in the UK and increasingly conifer mite is responsible for these dead and dying patches. It is important to treat as soon as the pest is spotted as badly infected areas may not recover. To control Conifer Mite, use a combination of SB Invigorator natural spray and Amblyseius Andersonni.

Controlling Conifer Mite with Amblyseius Andersonni – To check that it is a conifer mite infestation, tap the infected area over some white paper and check the paper for tiny red-brown mites. If the hedge is heavily infested, spider webbing will also be present. Once you have identified that the pest is present, control conifer mite, use a combination of SB Invigorator natural spray and Amblyseius Andersonni as follows :-

  • Spray with Sb Invigorator natural spray at least TWICE to kill as many conifer mites as possible. Spray at least twice at 7 day intervals and try to cover as much of the hedge as possible i.e. push the spray lance into the heart of the hedge. We will send the SB Invigorator 1st.
  • After you have sprayed twice and when the daytime temperatures are above 10c, you will receive the Amblyseius Andersonni in sachets which are hung at 1m intervals along the length of the hedge. We will send the Amblyseius Andersonni 7 days later or when temperatures are suitable.

Amblyseius Andersonni - Amblyseius andersonii is supplied in sachets with each sachet containing a colony of Amblyseius and a supply of food which will last them for up to 6-8 weeks. During this time the adult Amblyseius will emerge and search for Conifer Mites on your plants to eat. Hang the sachets at 1m intervals i.e. for a 3m high hedge, you will need 3 sachets per linear metre – you will need 30 sachets for a 10m long, 3m high hedge. To stop the sachets falling out of the hedge, it may be necessary to staple the bottom of the sachets together.

“I am attaching photos of my hedge, one taken when I first spoke to you and one taken about 33 weeks ago. I think you will agree there is new growth. Thank you for your advice.” Joy Mawby

Codling and Plum Moth Traps - The moth lays eggs in developing fruit flowers and these produce grubs, which eat the centre of the developing fruit, so instead of a nice crunchy apple there is an unpleasant brown 'mess'. Stop this happening by using moth traps hung in your fruit trees in the spring.

Codling and Plum Moth Traps These simple and easy to use traps contain a pheremone-laced lure, which attracts the male moths and traps them before fertilising the females so no eggs are produced. Hang 1 trap per 5 trees and this will protect them for the season. Simply insert a new refill each year. These traps are pesticide free and will not harm beneficial insects.

"I've used your Codling Moth Trap for the last two years on my Bramley apple tree, as every year all the apples had the classic small brown holes and ruined interiors; not much happened in year one, but this year I'm overjoyed to find all my apples undamaged!  At last I'll be able to store them over the winter.  Thank you very much for a good natural solution." All the best Jill Goulder

Economy Glue Bands - Protect your apple and other fruit trees from winter moth, ants, vine weevil and earwigs with glue bands. Coated in non-toxic, non-drying glue they form an effective barrier against crawling insects. These Economy Glue Bands are supplied in a large 3.5m roll with string.

Economy Glue Bands - Most insects won't try to cross the band and those that do will be caught. The green waterproof paper is not attractive to beneficial insects. Glue Bands are supplied in a 3.5m roll with string. Cut off the required length, place the band around the tree trunk, below the lowest branch and ideally 60-90cm (2-3 feet) above the ground. Protects apples and other fruit trees against winter moth, but can also be used to protect plants from ants, vine weevil and earwigs.

N.B. Spray your fruit trees with Garlic Wonder Fruit Tree Spray, which contains organic extract of garlic blended with seaweed and citrus, which will stimulate growth and encourage a healthy root system, so the plants are much MORE vigorous, produce MORE fruit and are MORE resistant to attack from both insects and fungal diseases. Control Woodlice and Earwigs with Diatomaceous Earth (DE)This very fine chemical free powder is used in the same way as ant powder -simply "squirt" the powder wherever there is any pest activity. The fine DE sticks to the insect and kills it by physical means. DE is safe to use in the garden, around edible crops, in areas where children play and is safe to use around pets. DE will not only control woodlice and earwings, but can also be used to control the following WITHOUT using chemicals :-
  • Ants & other crawling insects in the garden - ideal for controlling ants in patios, driveways, between paving slabs, etc.
  • Fleas, ticks and lice on cats and dogs - simply rub into the coat. Fleas in pet bedding and carpets.
  • Worms in cats and dogs - simply add the relevant dose to your pet's food.
  • Flies in a wormery. Add a dusting of DE to the compost.
  • Poultry mite both on poultry and in poultry houses.

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is 100% natural and is supplied as a fine powder in a 100g Puffer bottle or in 1kg tubs with a free re-fillable puffer bottle. Simply "squirt" the powder where-ever the insects live or crawl.

Diatomaceous Earth is the fossilised remains of diatoms (a type of algae). The diatoms have a silica hard shell which does not decompose in the lakes or sea where diatoms live. Over long periods of time large volumes of diatoms are exposed on the surface of dried out lakes. Thousands of tons of this natural product are available worldwide.

Diatomaceous Earth controls insects by physical means not chemical. The DE is applied where insects live and is picked up by them. Just squirt into the cracks and crevices, where ants live or rub into a dog's coat to control fleas and ticks. Insects die from contact with DE within a few days.
