"I’ve just received a delivery of the coir pots which are an excellent product at a very reasonable price. Several of the ladies at work who grown on their own plants have expressed an interest so hopefully you’ll be getting more orders. Finally, we had a very cold night over the weekend and I was pleased to see my first ladybirds using the ladybird house I had just put out in the garden. I will be investing in some other wildlife shelters before the winter. I hope you’ve got the message your products are brilliant and I wish more people would consider this way of gardening than pulverising everything with chemicals. Keep up the good work. Terry Lane"
Green Gardener - the natural way to keep your garden looking good

Coir Pellets, Coir Pots, Coir Trays and Coir Compost PLUS Hanging Flower Bags.

At last, an alternative to peat and plastic pots. Our range of coir based pots, trays, compost and Grow Bags offer benefits to the plant, the environment and to you, the gardener.

  • Plant roots are not restricted by the pot - they grow through the coir and establish quickly.
  • Coir is a renewable resource.
  • Used pots simply rot down in the soil.
  • No more clearing up plastic pots and polystyrene trays.

"Thanks for the advice - I will definitely be buying the coir again - I've had a lot more success with seeds this year using it rather than a soil based compost.  It doesn't dry out quickly, and the feeding regime means you get really healthy young plants ready for the rigors of the allotment!"
Kind regards Gemma

Coir Pellets, Trays, Pots and Compost

Coir Pellets, Coir Trays, Coir Pots and Coir Compost - Our range of coir based products are PEAT FREE making them better for the environment and your plants. They are also easier to use (no more clearing up plastic / polystyrene pots, because the pots simply rot down in the soil after use) and produce healthier, faster growing plants (the roots grow through the pot into the soil, so there is no need to disturb the roots when you plant).

Coir Pellets - These compressed coir pellets are ideal for sowing seeds or for rooting cuttings. Add water to them and watch them swell to make the ideal growing medium (3.6cm in diameter). It is always best to sow seeds into individual pellets, so you don’t have to handle young delicate seedlings as it is so easy to damage them. Once large enough, pot up or plant out the plant and the pellet. For small seeds such as begonia and lobelia sow a tiny pinch of seeds into a coir pellet. For larger seeds such as tomato simply drop 1 or 2 seeds into the a coir pellet. I prefer to cover these larger seeds with a sprinkling of vermiculite. For cuttings of tender perennials such as fuchsias, geraniums, verbena etc. (many of the plants used in baskets and tubs through the summer will provide cuttings), push the cuttings into the coir pellets and place in a propagator or simply cover with a plastic bag and keep on a warm windowsill. They should root in 2-3 weeks.

Coir Trays - These coir trays are ideal for pricking out seedlings, sowing larger seeds or potting on 'baby plants' Made out of compressed coir ,they consist of 15 cells, with each cell measuring 5cm x 5cm. The trays are easy to use - simply fill with coir compost (or any other suitable compost) and sow larger seeds such as runner beans, cucumbers etc directly into individual cells, insert in cuttings, prick out seedlings or pot up baby plants. The roots grow freely through the side walls, so when the plants are big enough, simply seperate the cells and plant the cell AND plant into a larger pot, a hanging basket or into the garden.

Special Offer- Coir Pots - These pots are ideal for potting on and for raising larger plants such as greenhouse vegetable plants, fuchsias, geraniums, dahlias, Surfinia petunias etc. These Coir Pots start off just like plastic pots, but roots grow through the sides of the pot ready for potting or planting out - no root disturbance for the plant and no plastic pots for you to throw away. Here tomato plants have been raised in coir post before being planted (pot and all) directly into the grow bag - You simply pop the plant & the pot into the planting hole. Its quick and easy and good for the plants and for the environment. Made from renewable resources and biodegradable. Available in 3 sizes :-

Eco Basket Liner

New Eco Basket Liner - This NEW Eco Basket Liner looks like real grass giving a more realistic appearance than traditional basket liners and can be used over and over again for 10 years + making it great value for money. It is made from recycled plastic that is bird and squirrel resistant PLUS being lined it retains 20% extra water. The liner is suitable for 12-14 inch baskets, but the liner can easily cut to size PLUS it also has pre-cut holes in the side making it very easy to position plants through the sides.

New Eco Basket Liner - It is time to plant up winter baskets and these new Eco Basket Liners are ideal. Plants for winter baskets are in your garden centre now - these include ivy to trail down the side of the basket, winter flowering heathers, pansies, cyclamen, the silver leafed plant is a cineraria maratima plus pop in some dwarf daff bulbs for extra colour in the spring. Winter baskets are very easy to look after requiring very little in the way of water and feed and are a great way of adding some winter colour to your garden. N.B. If we get a prolonged cold spell put the baskets in a sheltered position, so they don’t freeze through.

These New Eco Basket Liner are very easy to use - Place the liner in the basket and trim if necessary with scissors and then half fill the basket with compost and push ivies out through the pre-cut holes in the sides to trail down the sides of the basket. Once the sides are complete, fill to the top with compost. Plant the centre first - I have used a cineraria, but you could use a cyclamen or dwarf conifer and then fill in with pansies etc. I like to pop a few dwarf daffbulbs in between the plants to add some extra colour in the spring.

Hanging Flowers Bags and planting accessories

Hessian Hanging Flower Bags - These hanging bags are made from hessian, which is biodegradable and much more attractive than the plastic versions and are great for creating colourful all year round displays. Hanging bags are much easier to prepare and look after than hanging baskets as they require much less water and feed. The bag will last at least 2 seasons and much longer if emptied and stored dry when not in use.

Hessian Hanging Flower Bags - They are very easy to plant - In the summer, fill with bizzie lizzies and fuchsias for the shade or petunias, bedding begonias or trailing geraniums for the sun. Plant them up with pansies in the Autumn. Simply fill with a good quality potting compost and insert Water Slices (if using), placing them evenly in the bag as you fill it with compost. Lay the bag flat to plant, increasing the size of the holes to take the roots. Water the bags and leave for 1-2 weeks before hanging the bag up and planting one or two plants in the top.

"Hi Jon, I’ve attached a photo of the begonia illumination I’ve grown in a hessian bag (see left).  The bags work brilliantly and the display has been stunning all summer." Ann by Email

"I just thought I'd send you a photo of my flowers from last year (see right). I was delighted when I saw your hessian bags because it meant I could still have a little bit of garden on my narrowboat. Throughout the summer I had people asking about what I used (fellow narrowboaters and tow path walkers alike) and I duly directed them to 'Green Gardener'. Thanks for a great product." Organic Feed Sachets - Supplied in individual water soluble sachets, just throw one in a watering can, add water and let it dissolve. There is no mixing, no measuring, no mess - all you end up with is a watering can full of organic liquid feed. Based on seaweed, the feed contains all the nutrients your plants require. Start feeding your plants 4-6 weeks after planting and feed every 2 weeks during the growing season. 24 sachets will feed your 4 hanging bags throughout the growing season. N.B. Can also be used to feed hanging baskets, tubs and containers.

As recommended in the Saturday Telegraph - Water slices - Hanging bags and baskets need alot of water and can easily dry out. Stop this happening by adding a water slice. These slices absorb water as you water and retain it longer than compost alone, so less watering for you! Plant roots will penetrate the slice and take out the water. Soak the disc overnight in water and it will dramatically increase in size! Cut the slice in quarters and place evenly in the bag as you fill it with compost. Plant the hanging bags up as normal and water. N.B. Can also be used to feed hanging baskets, tubs and containers.
