Using "grey" water - What greywater can I re-use? Grey water is the water from sinks, baths, the washing machine etc which can be used to water the garden. Water from the bath or shower is generally the easiest to re-use, as shampoos & soaps are relatively mild and well diluted and can be used straight on the garden. If you want to re-use greywater from a washing machine on the garden, then use detergents that is low in sodium and phosphorous, as these can damage plants, degrade soil and cause algal blooms. Ex-kitchen water can be very dirty, and contain lots of undesirable things, like grease, oil and chemicals and as it is generally produced in small quantities its best not to reuse it. Tips for using grey water :-
Wait for the grey water to cool before watering your garden.
Do not use grey water on vegetables, seedlings, rooting cuttings and acid-loving plants e.g. camellias or rhododendrons.
Use natural soaps, shampoos, detergents and bleach as these are biodegradable and have no damaging additives.

Water Wand Solar Irrigation System - The system consists of a solar panel, battery and pump, which distributes water from YOUR water butt to your plants through drippers just like a traditional irrigation system. The solar pump is fixed above the water butt in a sunny position. If your water butt is in the shade, simply position the pump in the sun and insert the feed hose into the water butt. The Water Wand then waters your plants automatically every 3 hours. The amount of water pumped depends on 2 factors - the amount of sunshine and the position of the control knob which can be adjusted to water large or small plants. Water Wand Solar Irrigation System is ideal for watering hanging baskets, grow bags, containers, raised beds, borders and vegetable gardens. Each kit will supply enough water for 6 x 35cm or 12 x 25cm hanging baskets or 40 x 5 litre pots. Each kit comes complete with 12 drippers, 15m of tubing, fixing kit and full instructions.
New - Plant Feeder Kit - Connect this feeder kit into your Solar Irrigiation system and it will automatically feed your plants everytime it waters. Seaweed fertiliser is ideal, but you can also use any water soluble feed such as Tomorite or Miraclegro. Because the fertiliser is being delivered constantly, you need only make it up at 1/4 strength, so the liquid feed lasts longer and constant feeding is much better for your plants. Water Slices for Hanging Baskets and Containers
As recommended in the Saturday Telegraph and down in price - Water slices - Hanging bags and baskets need alot of water and can easily dry out. Stop this happening by adding a water slice.
As recommended in the Saturday Telegraph and down in price - Water slices - These slices absorb water as you water and retain it longer than compost alone, so less watering for you! Plant roots will penetrate the slice and take out the water. Soak the disc overnight in water and it will dramatically increase in size! Cut the slice in quarters and place evenly in the bag as you fill it with compost. Plant the hanging bags up as normal and water. N.B. Can also be used to feed hanging baskets, tubs and containers.
