New - Controlling Lily Beetle - The Scarlet Lily Beetle (Lilioceris lilii) is a garden pest which is very destructive to lilies and fritillaries. Control Lily Beetle by spraying with this natural Lily Beetle Spray based on pyrethrum - natures own insecticide. This spray can also be used to control Raspberry Beetle, early signs of Greenfly and Blackfly (use ladybirds and lacewings for longer term control - CLICK HERE to find out more), Whitefly and Flea Beetle.

Controlling Lily Beetle - The red lily beetle is about 8 - 10 mm long. The adults spend the winter in sheltered places in the garden (not necessarily near lilies) before emerging in late March - May to feed on the lilies. They lay their eggs underneath the leaves throughout the summer and these eggs take about a week to hatch into beetle larvae, which then feed on lily foliage leaving holes in the flowers and leaves. It takes 2 weeks for the larvae to be fully grown and during this time they will disguise themselves as bird droppings by covering themselves in excrement. They pupate in the ground and then 2 -3 weeks later they emerge as adult lily beetles. The bright red adult lily beetles feed on the flowers, leaves and stems of the lily before laying more eggs.  

To control lily beetle - An infestation of lily beetles in the garden or greenhouse can destroy and kill lily bulbs and plants. Use this new Lily Beetle Spray regularly through the summer where evidence of damage is seen, spraying both sides of the leaf. It can be used both under glass and in the garden for control on both ornamental and edible plants. Based on pyrethrum, it has a contact action leaving no harmful deposits to affect beneficial insects such as ladybirds and lacewings. To control lily beetle :-

1. In spring inspect young lily plants as they appear - remove any visible adult beetles and larvae - the bright red beetles should be easy to spot! This will help to prevent any infestation becoming established.
2. Repot pot grown lilies and fritillarias -  repot them in early spring and destroy the old compost to kill any overwintering lily beetles.
3. Through the summer spray regularly with Lily Beetle Spray - This is an effective control for a range of insect pests including Lily Beetle and Raspberry Beetle.

Biofume Greenhouse Smoke - Fumigating a greehouse with a sulphur candle has been the traditional way of clearing over-wintering pests. Replace these sulphur based candles with a Biofume Greenhouse Candle - a unique chemical-free garlic candle.

Biofume Greenhouse Smoke - This natural garlic candle is used in the same way as a sulphur candle i.e. simply place this in your greenhouse, light the fuse and leave overnight. Sulphur Rose can be used on other plants (especially apples, cane fruits, dahlias, delphiniums, honeysuckle, phlox, pears, plums, clematis and grapes) which suffer from yellowing leaves and blemishes - simply spray both the underside and top of the foliage throughout the growing season at a rate of 10g per 4.5 litres (1 gallon) of water.

Citrox disinfectant - Citrox is ideal for cleaning greenhouses, water butts, bird tables and pots and trays. Citrox is ideal for keeping bird tables clean to minimise the spread of diseases. It can also be added to waterbutts (25ml per 100 litres of water) to keep the water clean and free from disease.

How do I use it? Remove any loose debris, spray onto surface and allow to dry. Just spray and walk away!
Where can I use it? On paving, stone, decking, fencing, garden furniture, garden ornaments, sheds, masonry, kennels and much more- in fact anywhere there is algae or mould growing!
Is it safe? Clearway contains no bleach or acids so is harmless to you, your pets and your plants- so if some runs off your patio onto the border it will not harm the plants.
